Conference 2022

New Jersey Communication Association
COMM[UNITY]

26th Annual Conference (Virtually)
Rowan College at Burlington County (Mt Laurel Township, NJ)
March 26, 2022

We are living through a period of global crisis, which has added stress to an already hyper-environment. We have also seen the rise of more disunity as extremism, polarization and inequities became even more apparent.

The theme of our 2022 Conference is centered on a call for a return to unity fueled by embracing the attributes of civility, respect and dignity in our interactions. A return to passionate, but open and respectful dialogue.

Many institutions are trying to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in every program so the idea of communication as community is timely and appropriate for the current world we are all living and working in. Communication helps communities to break out of the culture of silence and address the problems and issues of concern. A decisive role can be played by communication in promoting human development in today’s climate of social change.

The workplace is somewhat unrecognizable compared to only 24 months ago. Leading organizations and a cohesive workforce in the aftermath of a global health crisis will require unmatched communication skills. Organization leaders will need to reassure and motivate employees, connect with customers and communicate how their vision fits into what will be a yet to be determined new normal. They will have to be consummate uniters.

Effective communication provides people of a community with information, structure, knowledge and positive environment in order to feel comfortable using their voice and settling issues viably. It is vital to stimulate their awareness, participation and capabilities. Communication skills and technology are central to this task, but at present are often underutilized or masked by the rise of derisive discourses.

Join us on March 26, 2022 virtually by the Rowan University at Burlington County. We welcome academic papers, posters, thematic presentation panels, conversation circles, hands-on workshops and demonstrations, and, of course, fun and games of any creative sort. The NJCA values participation of undergraduate and graduate students, faculty scholars, and practitioners whose ideas and applications span wide-ranging topics and contexts of communication.
