AD & PR Call for Papers

Call for Papers/Presentations!

You are cordially invited to share your Advertising or Public Relations papers at the 2021 Midwest Popular Culture Association/American Culture Association’s Annual Conference Thursday-Sunday October 7-10 at the Westin Minneapolis Hotel in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The AD & PR Area is devoted to presenting new knowledge about Advertising & Public Relations topics related to popular culture. Topics include, but are certainly not limited to:

  • Portrayals of advertising and public relations in pop culture television and films.
  • Analyses of current (or historic) advertising campaigns that have become pop culture phenomena.
  • Use of new media in public relations or advertising campaigns.
  • Public relations and advertising in sports, fashion, or politics.
  • Ways advertising and public relations are preserving or resurrecting historical icons.
  • Ethical issues in Public Relations and Advertising.
  • Special events that tie advertising and public relations into pop culture.
  • Analysis of historical advertising and public relations campaigns as connected to popular culture.
  • Presentations on teaching or learning public relations or advertising in university programs.
  • Presentations that analyze how healthcare public relations has contributed to an understanding of the global pandemic in popular culture.
  • Presentations that compare international public relations with American-style public relations in International or US popular culture.

Please note: Graduate students currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, your MA/PhD programs are strongly encouraged to submit their papers or presentations.

Abstracts must be uploaded by June 1, 2021 @ 5pm.
