These minutes were approved at the Executive Board Meeting of June 12, 1998. The meeting was called to order at 12:25pm by Susan Jasko, President. 1. President Susan Jasko (Montclair) welcomed all in attendance to the second conference of the NJCA. She thanked everyone who contributed to the success of this conference, especially all those who attended, all the presenters, and the Montclair University students who assisted her: Allan Kennedy, Tricia Franklin, Sherri Ricciardelli, and Denise Rogers. She noted that last year the power went out during the conference and that this year there was an ice and snow storm and suggested that the motto of the NJCA conference should be "The Conference You Attend If You Dare." President Jasko also expressed gratitude to the sponsors: the School of the Arts, Montclair State University, and the SCILS Alumni Association, Rutgers University. Our distinguished keynote speakers, Lea Stewart (Rutgers), and Gary Gumpert (Communication Landscapers) were recognized for their support. 2. Susan Jasko introduced 1st Vice President, Jonathan Millen (Rider University). He thanked Marie Radford (Pratt) and the nominating committee for their work in preparing the state of officers. He presented the slate of officers to the membership. Diana Peck (William Paterson University) moved and Gary Gumpert (Communication Landscapers) seconded that the slate be approved. It was approved unanimously. The 1998-1999 Executive Board of the NJCA is as follows:
3. Jonathan Millen announced that the 3rd NJCA Conference would be held at Rider University on April 3, 1999 (NOTE: has since been changed to April 10, 1999). He urged the membership to join the Executive Board in helping to provide theme ideas, to suggest Keynote speakers, and to be involved in organizing a successful conference. 4. Susan Jasko reported that there were 133 people registered. She turned the gavel over to Thom Gencarelli (Montclair), President-elect. Thom Gencarelli again thanked all who had helped to make the conference a success and stated that he looked forward to seeing the organization growing and prospering. He noted that Rowan University will be the site for 2000. Everyone present was again invited to participate in the NJCA and was assured that their help and ideas were actively sought. Members were urged to fill out the conference evaluation forms, visit the Website (http://www.scils.rutgers.edu/njca/njca.htm), and to sign up for the listserv (send the message: SUB NJCA-L firstname lastname to the address: listserve@frontier.wilpaterson.edu). 5. Gary Radford (William Paterson), editor of the New Jersey Journal of Communication, announced that NJJC had been designated as the official journal of the NJCA and that membership dues now include a subscription to the journal.
6. Susan Barnes (Fordham) presented certificates to the student award winners.
7. Susan Jasko, was called to the podium and presented with an engraved plaque recognizing her leadership as 1st President of NJCA. She offered her thanks to everyone in attendance for their support and enthusiasm. She closed the business meeting at 12:50 by wishing everyone an enjoyable day.
